Today was my first trip to the Indiana State Museum. IT WAS FANTASTIC! The museum had a plethora of exhibits that ranged from the first Native Americans of present-day Indiana to "pop" culture of Hoosier musicians and bands. I wish we had more time to browse every exhibit to notice every details; however, I would've been there all day long.
We began the morning with a presentation from one of the women in charge of organizing museum and educational trips, and booking educational "trunks". She presented us with the multiple resources for teachers and schools both at the museum and in other historic sites around Indiana. We received a large packet about the K-12 Educational programs the museum offers. This can be located on their website: indianamuseum.org. Furthermore, we were informed of "The 12 Great Day Trips" that include the multiple historic sites offering educational trips for schools.

Civil War Activities for off-site visits:
- students march with muskets and learn the commands/positions.
- students try on battle outfits and women's dressing.
- students decide what items they would bring with them to war and training.
- students create their own tent.
The latter activity of the day was to explore the exhibits in the museum and keep our "Teacher Eyes" open for creative activities we can incorporate into our classroom. Our assignment was to find an exhibit or aspect of the museum that sparks an interest and would be an excellent social studies lesson in our future classroom.
